Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) has recently opened a promotion office in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, with the intention of strengthening its promotional initiatives. The opening ceremony held caught great interest.
The ceremony was attended by Nazım Çavuşoğlu, the Minister of National Education in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus; Vüqar İsgəndərov, the Member of the Azerbaijani National Parliament; Cavanşir Feyziyev, Chair of the Azerbaijan-Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group; Ufuk Tuganer, Baku Representative of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus; EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç; European University of Lefke (EUF) Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen; Founding President of Hedef Group of Companies Şəmil Sadiq; İlhami Bilgen, Manager of Wotmax Company, as well as many invited guests and official authorities.
Aims to Contribute to the Development of Joint Platforms within the Turkic World
The EMU Baku Promotion Office aims to foster the development of collaborative platforms not only between two countries but throughout the broader Turkic world in areas such as education, science, and culture. It is expected to serve as a foundation for new partnerships focused on preserving shared cultural heritage, exchanging knowledge and expertise, and launching joint initiatives. Additionally, the office seeks to promote mutual understanding, cooperation, and solidarity among the youth of the Turkic community.
EMU, with its international outlook, continues to support efforts that go beyond academia by actively fostering stronger social and cultural connections through initiatives like these.

In his remarks, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç said; “As EMU, we have launched the Baku Promotion Office to conduct our promotional efforts in Azerbaijan more efficiently and sustainably within an organized framework. This office will not only promote our university’s educational programs and vision but also create opportunities for projects that bring together the youth of the Turkic world based on common values. By enhancing cooperation in education, science, and culture, we aim to strengthen the ties between the two countries. Eastern Mediterranean University is positioned to be a leading provider of international education opportunities for students in Azerbaijan. Guided by our internationalization strategy, we strive to equip our students with both academic expertise and the competencies required to thrive in the global job market.”

Rector Prof. Dr. Kılıç expressed his sincere gratitude to Hedef Group of Companies and World Opportunities Trading Ltd. (Wotmax Student) for their vital role in establishing the office. He highlighted that their support has been instrumental not only in the project’s success but also in enhancing educational cooperation within the Turkic world, helping to reinforce connections between universities and students in the region. He offered his heartfelt appreciation for their committed efforts during this endeavour.
In his speech, Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu underscored their desire to enhance collaboration and said; “Bringing youth together is among our priorities”. Noting that mutual steps were taken towards elevating the numbers of Azerbaijani students in TRNC, Çavuşoğlu said; “The establishment of the EMU Promotion Office in Baku marks an important milestone in increasing the visibility of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s higher education vision within Azerbaijan. We sincerely hope that young people unite through common culture, history, and values to progress together toward the future. I wholeheartedly congratulate EMU and all those who contributed to this achievement”.
EMU Rector and the Minister of National Education Meet with EMU Alumni
During their visit to Azerbaijan, Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu and EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç met with EMU alumni who hold degrees in law, architecture, business, and economics and are actively serving in various roles within Azerbaijan.
They were joined by TRNC Baku Representative Ambassador Ufuk Turganer and Behçet Çelebi, Director of the Higher Education and Foreign Relations Department of the TRNC Ministry of National Education.
In the meetings, ideas were exchanged with the graduates, and both Minister Çavuşoğlu and Rector Prof. Dr. Kılıç expressed pride in the contributions made by EMU graduates in Azerbaijan. They underscored that these successes play a vital role in enhancing the university’s global reputation and assured that communication with alumni will be maintained and strengthened going forward.
A Visit to the Embassy
Minister Çavuşoğlu, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Kılıç, EUL Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Yükselen, Baku Representative and Ambassador of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Ufuk Tuganer, Director of the Higher Education and Foreign Relations Department of the TRNC Ministry of National Education Behçet Çelebi paid a visit to Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Baku.
The visit included in-depth discussions about possibilities for collaboration in education, especially regarding student and academic staff exchanges, aimed at enhancing the partnership between the two countries.
