Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) has won trophies as champions in many fields in sports. After the EMU Men's Wrestling Team won the Wrestling Tournament held between universities, EMU Women's and Men's Swimming Team, EMU Archery Team and EMU Women's Volleyball Team contine to make the University proud with their remarkable achievements.
EMU Becomes Champion in Swimming
EMU Women's Swimming Team has become the champion in the swimming competition among universities. On the other hand, the aforesaid team, also the champion in the mixed relay race, has also won awards in the individual races. Aysel Sıddık won first place in 100m freestyle and Dilahan Tezel won first place in 50m back category, whilst Yusufcan Şensoy from men's swimming team won first place in 200m medley and Omar Yacoup won first place in 50m frog category. In addition, the Men's Swimming Team has become the champion in the mixed relay race.
On the other hand, Women's Swimming Team athlete İrge Sorgun came second in 100m and 50m freestyle, whilst Aysel Sıddık came second in 200m medley. Lara Gün came second in 50m breaststroke, and Beste Durukan came second in 50m butterfly style. Asya Gün came third in 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke, whilst Dilahan Tezel came third in 50m butterfly and Yıldız Çakıcı came third in 50m breaststroke, thus becoming the pride of EMU.
EMU Men's Swimming Team not only have become the champion in the mixed relay, but also came second in the swimming competition between universities. Also, Kaan Baygün came second in 50m freestyle, whilst Baturalp Boz came second in 50m backstroke. Alperen Balcı came second in 50m breaststroke and Yusufcan Şensoy came second in 50m butterfly. Additionally, Omar Yacoup came third in 50m freestyle and Kaan Baygün came third in 50m butterfly. EMU Men's Swimming Team came in second in the free flag, thus collecting all awards.
Champions in Archery
In the Archery Competition between universities, organised for the first time in the TRNC, the EMU Archery Club Team came first in the competition and has become the champion. In the said competition held at Nicosia Atatürk Stadium, Ahmet Sarp Özışık, Aytaç Ahmet Gürel, Varol İlker Ersalan and Bera Nur Yavuzeş competed in the individual ranking competition. At the end of the competition, the top 3 contestants with the highest scores qualified for the eliminations. The EMU Archery Club Team, coming first in the ranking competition with a total of 678 points, defeated their opponent 6-0 in the final shots and left the Archery Competition as champions.
EMU Volleyball Women’s Team Also Becomes Champions
In the final match of the Volleyball Federation Star Women's League, EMU Women's Volleyball Team won the final match against Karpaz Gate Marina at Nicosia Atatürk Sports Center and has become the champion. This year, 9 teams participated in the competition in the Star Women’s category. At the end of the classification matches played in the two groups, EMU Women's Volleyball team finished the group as the undefeated leader. Beating Çamlıkspor 2-1 in the semi-finals and leaving their mark in the finals, EMU won the match, which started with a 2-0 defeat against Karpaz Gate Marina in the final match, and finished with a score of 3-2, becoming the winner of the cup. Thus, EMU achieved great success by becoming the champion in 6 of the 8 classifications organized by the EMU Volleyball Federation.
