EMU Doctorate and Master’s Students Received Their Diplomas

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) 2018 – 2019 Academic Year Fall Semester Post-Graduate Convocation Ceremony was held on January 27th 2019, Sunday (14:00) at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center. Similar to the previous year, the graduate students received diplomas at a separate ceremony organised specially for them and was broadcast live on the internet by EMU TV. The ceremony was also broadcast live by BRT 2, Kanal T, Diyalog TV and Kanal Sim. EMU undertakes the duty of being a leading institution for contributing to the social and cultural development of 20 thousand students from 106 countries. EMU experienced the excitement of graduating nearly 1400 students in the Fall Semester. As one of the world’s prestigious institutions of higher education, it maintains the same sensitivity and excitement when graduating a student as the day they are first welcomed into the university.

Representative of the Nigerian Embassy in Ankara Ahmed Mohammed Monguno, Bologna University Rector’s Representative and Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. Luca Mezzetti, EMU Board of Trustees President Adv. Boysan Boyra, EMU Rector Prof Dr. Necdet Osam, Vice Rectors, Faculty Deans, Department Chairs, academic personnel and approximately 250 graduates and their families attended the ceremony.

 

Emotional Moments

The 2018 – 2019 Academic Year Fall Semester Convocation Ceremony began as the post-graduate students entered the hall accompanied by music and acclamation. As the graduates entered, the academicians turned towards the families, who greatly contributed to the students’ achievement, and greeted the graduates. A wave of emotions swept through the hall as the graduates made their entrance. The ceremony continued with a Moment of Silence and the Turkish National Anthem. The guests were also delighted by a magnificent trio music performance by EMU Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts, Music Teaching program academic members Serkan Çankaya (Classical Guitar), Altay Altınok (Percussion) and Levent Ünal (Acoustic Guitar and Soloist). After the music performance, EMU Faculty of Communication, Communication Programme Graduate Hanife Erişen gave a speech on behalf of the 2018 – 2019 Academic Year Fall Semester Master’s Graduates.

“We Will Leave the Footprints of EMU Wherever We Go”

Expressing her honour and joy of being EMU students, Erişen pointed to the hardships and necessary efforts of the post-graduate journey, and stated that they would contribute to humanity and science. Erişen said that they would leave the footprints of EMU wherever they went in the world, and underlined the importance of the friendships they formed in this international campus environment.

Speaking to represent the 2018 – 2019 Academic Year Fall Semester Doctoral Program Graduates, Faculty of Education, Department of Foreign Languages Teaching, English Language Teaching Doctoral Programme graduate Salih Gürsoy thanked all families and academicians for sharing their happiness on this meaningful day on behalf of all graduates.

 

Prof. Dr. Osam Addressed the Graduates

In his speech, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam started his speech by expressing their hope that EMU student Buse Acar, who went missing during the hurricane disaster in Antalya, would once again return safely. Prof. Dr. Osam offered his sincere gratitude to the thesis supervisors and academic members for their guidance and devotion; and underlined that the families were to be thanked for their eternal support and contribution in reaching this point of achievement. Addressing the graduates, Prof. Dr. Osam said “As of today, all of you have reached a certain level of depth and thinking in your respective disciplines. These virtues will carry you forward and strengthen your inquiries”.

Prof. Dr. Osam emphasised that in its 40th year, EMU’s flower of science has flourished and got stronger; and that EMU presented the world with scientific knowledge. He also stated that its world rankings in the last three years, research and field-focused ratings were praiseworthy. Prof.  Dr. Osam congratulated EMU personnel for their sense of quality and efforts; and he also congratulated the first graduate of the joint law programme with Bologna University.

 

The 2018 – 2019 Academic Year Fall Semester Post-Graduate Convocation Ceremony continued as the graduates were presented with their diplomas. The ceremony ended as EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam counted down from ten and the graduates tossed their caps in the air. After a family photo, a cocktail was given at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center in honour of the graduates.
