EMU Graduate Becomes Pladis Global’s Marketing Manager

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Engineering Faculty, Department of Industrial Engineering Graduate Ahmet Necmi Dinç has become the Marketing Manager of London based Pladis Global which is one of the world’s biggest chocolate and snack manufacturer.

After graduation Ahmet Necmi Dinç, completed his military service and started to work at GfK, which is one of Turkey’s biggest research companies. After working there for a year, in 2013 he became Brand Manager of Yıldız Holding’s Ülker Group. After becoming Pladis Global’s Brand Manager in 2016, he was promoted to Marketing Manager last March. Pladis Global which incorporates brands such as McVitie’s, GODIVA and Ülker became one of the world’s largest chocolate and snack manufacturers with a sales revenue of 3.5 billion GBP in 2017.

Ahmet Necmi Dinç thanked EMU and Department of Industrial Engineering where he not only received a quality English language education but also obtained the opportunity to familiarize with different cultures as a result of EMU being home to students from 116 different countries.

EMU Department of Industrial Engineering Chair Asst. Prof. Dr. Gökhan İzbırak stated that Industrial Engineers and Operating Engineers don’t only work at factories where manufacturing takes but also in the service sector (consultancy, transportation, energy, logistics, finance, banking, hospitals, brand managing, software, tourism, education, telecommunication, marketing, human resources etc… ) and in the management of construction and extraction companies (companies that deal with the extraction of petroleum, natural gas, mining etc.) helping them to produce higher quality products and services at a lower price.

The Department of Industrial Engineering offers students a double major in Mechanical Engineering or Business Administration and has ABET accreditation which has only been obtained by five Turkish universities (abet.org). Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration graduates of the Department which graduated its first students in 1998 are currently working in the management of international manufacturing, construction and extraction companies. They have also been accepted to and graduated from postgraduate programs of some of the world’s best universities such as MIT and Cambridge with high honors, later going on to work as academicians at the universities.
