COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course covers the topics such as information technologies in education; teaching process and the categorisation of educational technology; learning theories related to educational technologies; recent trends in learning theories; digital literacies; educational technologies as tools and materials; material design; theme based material design; developing discipline specific learning resource center; evaluating educational materials.
OBJECTIVES
The subject is designed to help learners develop broad knowledge in integrating ICTs into education. In this respect, upon the completion of the course students will be able to
- identify the characteristics of 21st-century teachers & learners,
- integrate technology and media into instruction based on learning theories,
- develop knowledge in Web 2.0 tools, educational materials, and activities,
- evaluate educational materials and technology,
- enhance the teaching and learning process with multimedia.

TEACHING / LEARNING APPROACH
In order to help learners reflect on and articulate the uses of ICTs in education face-to-face teaching, online discussions, required readings, and several take-homes and in-class assignments will be administered.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS
In order to successfully complete the course, students are required to
- participate in discussions in class and online environment
- show curiosity
- attend at least 80% of lectures
- complete assigned reading/s and tasks on time
METHOD OF ASSESSMENT
Student success will be evaluated as follows:
- Term Project: 40% (20% the learning environment itself, 20% the description of the learning environment in written form)
- Term Project Report: 40%
TERM PROJECT Deadline date: 12 Jun 2020
Students are required to pick a topic of their choice and design a learning environment & activity based on the principles of authentic learning and principles of authentic activities as suggested by the coursebook.
TERM PROJECT REPORT Deadline date: 12 Jun 2020
Students are required to write a report and fully explain how each of the principles of authentic learning and authentic activities were applied to the learning environment.
The report should be written in 12 font size and Times New Roman font type. It should be typed and printed on an A4 size paper (one-sided only) and use 2.5 cm of margins from all sides. The report should have a cover page and on the cover page student's name, surname and student number should appear. The report must be stapled from the top left corner.
PRESENTATION Date: 16 Jun
Students will present their learning environment in the class and reflect on and articulate
- What they learned throughout this course
- Difficulties and problems they experienced and the solutions they provided
Total scores will be graded according to following criteria:
A = 90 – 100 % C+ = 65 – 69 % D– = 45 – 49 %
A– = 85 – 89 % C = 60 – 64 % F = 00 – 44 % or for Plagiarism
B+ = 80 – 84 % C– = 56 – 59 % NG = Below 80 % attendance or
B = 75 – 79 % D+ = 53 – 55 % lack of assessments
B– = 70 – 74 % D = 50 – 52 %
