  • Head of Department (2010 – 2016) / Main achievements: (1) Full accreditation of the mechanical engineering program to ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) in 2011 (2) Publications in journals (science citation index and science citation index expanded) reached 3.13 per faculty member in 2014 (an all-times best)
  • Member of ABET Committee of the department (ABET – Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) (2005 – 2015)
  • Coordinator of Undergraduate Graduation Projects – "Capstone Team Project" was introduced (2000-2002)
  • As a faculty member introduced new courses such as "Introduction to Energy Management" for undergraduate students and "Energy Management and Utilization" for graduate students. (2007-2009)
  • Taught undergraduate courses: Thermodynamics 1, Fundamentals of Thermodynamics, Introduction to Energy Management, Dynamics of Machinery, and Systems Control.

EMU Energy Research Center (EMU-ERC)

Director, Energy Research Center since 2004. Activities are as follows:

  • Development of solar energy research laboratory (2013 – present). The laboratory is intended to have three major functions: 1) Conducting research, 2) training students, engineers, architects and other professionals, 3) conducting standard tests on solar collectors.
  • Organization of International Conferences:
    • ICCE-2018 – 16th International Conference on Clean Energy – 9-11 May 2018, Famagusta, N. Cyprus.
    • InVEnT-2017 – 2nd International Conference on Viable Energy Trends – 28-30 April 2017, Helsinki, Finland.
    • InVEnT-2016 – 1st International Conference on Viable Energy Trends – 30-31 January 2016, Sharjah/Dubai, U.A.E.
    • ICCE-2010 – 10th International Conference on Clean Energy – 15-17 September 2010, Famagusta, N. Cyprus.
        
  • Invited Speaker (Title: Global Best Practice in Demand-Side Management), Oman Energy and Water Exhibition and Conference, 23 – 25 May 2016, Muscat, Oman.
  • Keynote Speaker (Title: Adoption of Sustainable Energy Policies in Developing Countries), 14th International Conference on Clean Energy (ICCE-2015), 27th September – 1st October 2015, Saskatoon, Canada.
  • Chaired Energy Efficiency Committee (working under the Prime Minister) who was responsible for developing the Energy Efficiency Strategic Action plan for N. Cyprus (2013 – 2014). The plan got approval and it is planned to be implemented starting from 2017.
  • Short Term Energy Expert, Implementation of grant schemes on renewable energy for the Turkish Cypriot community in Cyprus (2014 – )
  • Chair of the "Energy Efficiency Agency" established under the Ministry of Economy and Energy of N. Cyprus (2010) / Worked on drafting the law of energy efficiency.
  • Chair of the 10th International Conference on Clean Energy (ICCE-2010). The conference was organized in collaboration with the Clean Energy Research Institute of the University of Miami. Also guest editor of the following journal issues after the conference:
    • Co-guest editor of the special issue "ICCE-2010" in International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Vol. 37, No. 2 (2012)
    • Guest editor of the special issue "Clean Energy Technologies" in International Journal of Energy Research Vol.37, Issue 5, 2013.
    • Co-guest editor of the special issue on "Clean Energy Technologies" in International Journal of Green Energy, Vol. 12, Issue 2, 2015.
  • Local Expert, EU project on demand-side management (DSM) – Energy Awareness project (2009 – 2010)
    • Took part in the preparation of a web site on renewable energy and energy efficiency both in English and Turkish.
    • Took part in the preparation of leaflets for promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency both in English and Turkish.
  • Local Energy Expert, USAID sponsored Resource Efficiency Achievement Project (REAP) (2005 – 2007). The project was undertaken by Core International Inc. from USA.
    • Provided consultancy on energy and local conditions
    • Qualified as certified energy auditor (granted by the Association of Energy Engineers, USA)
    • Energy audit results of the Palm Beach Hotel was reported
    • Conducted surveys to determine what type of training is required for the local professionals
    • Organized short courses for the professionals of architecture, mechanical, electrical and industrial Engineers under the titles: (a) Renewable Energy Systems, (b) State-of-the-art Energy Systems, (c) Certified Energy Auditor and (d) Certified Energy Manager
  • Coordinated the FP7 project proposal development entitled "Saving the Environment with New Energy Technologies (SENET)" with partners from Turkey, France, Romania, Albania and Jordan. The proposal received a lot of interest; however, it did not receive enough points to receive funding (2007)
  • Director of the energy efficiency public awareness and DSM campaign for the Cyprus Electricity Board (KIB-TEK) (2006 – 2007)
  • Organizer and chair of the discussion panel on short-term energy policies for N. Cyprus (2006)
  • Demand-side management (DSM) survey conducted for the Turkish Cypriot community in Cyprus with a list of program proposals (1996)

Pearl Construction Ltd (1988-1990)

  • Full-time building services engineer took part in many building projects in N. Cyprus.
  • Full involvement in a restoration project of a hotel building: Jasmine Court Hotel, Kyrenia. In this project the following jobs were undertaken and supervised: HVAC systems including chillers, boilers and the related systems, hot and cold water systems, rainwater and waste water systems, biological treatment plant, swimming pool, industrial kitchen, industrial laundry, artificial lake and water fountain.
