EMU Succesfully Completes ISO 9001, ISO 10002 and ISO 45001 Inspections

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), successfully completed ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (2nd Surveillance Audit), ISO 10002:2018 Student Satisfaction Management System (2nd Surveillance Audit) and ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System (Recertification) inspections conducted by the Turkish Standards Institution (TSE) between 29 November – 3 December, 2021. The audit inspecting the work of the 43-person quality team from the Total Quality Management Directorate who have been working on management system process since 2015 lasted 5 days. 

The Evaluation Results were shared with the Participants during the Final Meeting

An opening meeting was held on Monday, 29th of November, at 09:00. Chief Auditor Mehmet Ali Göksel (ISO 9001Quality Management System), Chief Auditor Gökçen Bircan Değerliyurt (ISO 10002 Student Satisfaction Management System and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System) and Audit Officer Metin Turan (ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 10002 Student Satisfaction Management System and ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System) attended the meeting on behalf of the Turkish Standards Institution. On the other hand, vice Rector for Administrative and Technical Affairs Prof. Dr. Serhan Şensoy and vice Rector’s Office for Administrative and Technical Affairs Coordinators Hasan Kavaz and Mahmut Dağtekin, Quality Representatives of all units (43 personnel) and Management Systems Consultant Latif Sakar attended the meeting on behalf of EMU.

The inspection team audited the units from three different branches, both in terms of documentation and infrastructure. In addition to the management system activities, academic reviews and evaluations were also made during the 5-day audit. A Final Meeting was held on Friday, 3 December 2021, with the participation of individuals who attended with opening meeting. Inspection outcomes were shared by the Inspection Team during the final meeting.

“EMU Serves as a Model”

Making a statement on inspection results regarding the Quality Management System, Chief Auditor Mehmet Ali Dönmez expressed that the Quality Management System in EMU was well established and reflected on the field, and that the practices in the units were carried out in an exemplary manner. Apart from the Quality Management System, Dönmez stated that EMU was the first institution in the TRNC to receive the Safe Education Institution Certification regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic and, that EMU has successfully completed the inspection process without any setbacks. 

“Personnel adapted the Management Systems”

Chief Auditor Gökçen Bircan Değerliyurt shared information on the Student Satisfaction Management System and Occupational Health and Safety Management System inspection outcomes. Putting out that both systems are adapted by the members of the personnel, Değerliyurt stated that the university received positive feedback, especially in the Occupational Health and Safety Management System inspection for the institution’s importance work conducted in terms of pandemic measures.  Değerliyurt stated that no minor or major non-compliance was detected regarding either of the two management systems. Audit Officer Metin Turan also conveyed that he appreciated the interests and efforts of the people he interviewed regarding the investigations he conducted during the audit, and that he saw good examples.

“We Wish to Continue Being a Leader”

Following the outcomes shared by the audit team, vice Rector Prof. Dr. Serhan Şensoy made a statement on behalf of EMU and expressed his happiness on the results of the inspection. Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Şensoy thanked the 43-person Quality Team which conducted the management system studies and Latif Sakar who provided consultancy and training to the Quality Team. Prof. Dr. Şensoy also said that they want to continue to break new ground in the TRNC and that they want to be a green university. For this reason, he stated that they aim to be the first university in the TRNC certified by TSE by fulfilling the requirements of ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System.
