EMU Rector Visits TRNC Minister of Education Cemal Özyiğit

The Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Rector paid a visit of courtest to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Minister of Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit. Among those in attendance during the said visit alongside with EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam were Vice Rector of Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özkaramanlı, Vice Rector of International Affairs and Promotion Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova, Vice Rector of Administrative and Technical Affairs Prof. Dr. Özgür Eren, Vice Rector of Financial Affairs Prof. Dr. Sevin Uğural and Director of Higher Education and Foreign Affairs Department Ziya Öztürkler.

“EMU is one of the Most Important Institutions of the TRNC”

During the visit, Professor Dr. Osam provided information about EMU and emphasized that with almost 20 thousand students from 106 different countries, EMU is the only university in the TRNC to have been ranked by the Times Higher Education (THE) in 2017 - 2018 Academic Year World University Rankings. Indicating that EMU features within the top 601-800, Prof. Dr. Osam stated that they are proud of this achievement which should be seen as a coincidence. Emphasizing that EMU is the best university on the island, Prof. Dr. Osam highlighted that the institution is constantly growing and developing. “EMU is the apple of TRNC’s eye. It is also featured top amongst Turkish universities after the universities Koç, Sabancı, Bilkent and Boğaziçi.

EMU Rector Wishes Best of Luck

EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam, congratulated Minister Özyiğit for his place in the new government and wished him the best of luck in his endeavors. The EMU Rector’s Office and Minister Özyiğit spoke about education in the TRNC and exchanged ideas about how to further increase contributions to the island’s economy that result from the institutional collaboration between EMU and the Ministry of Education and Culture. Minister Özyiğit expressed his satisfaction regarding the visit and wished EMU the best of luck in reaching their set goals. After

the visit of courtesy EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam presented TRNC Minister of Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit with a statue monument of a crow, known as the symbol of Famagusta. The visit ended with a group photo being taken.
