Short Biography
Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel received his PhD and MSc degrees from Imperial College London in 1998 and King's College London in 1993 respectively after graduating from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of Eastern Mediterranean University in 1992. He joined the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Eastern Mediterranean University, as an Assistant Professor in 2000. He was appointed as Associate Professor in 2009 and Professor in 2014. He has served as the Vice chairman of the department from 2003 to 2005 and from 2007 to 2014. He has been elected Chairman of the department since May 2014. His main research is in the field of Image Processing and he is currently involved in research projects related to biomedical image processing, image/video resolution enhancement, face recognition/tracking, facial expression analysis, low-bit rate video coding. He had been the deputy director of the Advanced Technologies Research and Development Institute. Furthermore, he had served as the member of the Executive Council of the EMU Technopark.
