The short film ‘Kısmet’, co-directed by Doğuş Özokutan, a graduate student at Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design, and Vasvi Çiftçioğlu, a doctorate student at the Faculty of Communication, has achieved a historic success for the Cypriot Turkish cinema.
‘Kısmet’, was nominated for the Audience Award by ‘Leeds International Film Festival’, a qualifying film festival for the OSCARS and BAFTA Awards. For the first time, a Cypriot Turkish made short film has made it to the official selection list of a festival accredited by the OSCARS and BAFTA Awards. Kısmet surpassed other four thousand world-wide applications made to the Leeds International Film Festival and managed to get a spot among the 13 films nominated for the Audience Award. The visual effects of Kısmet, shot under the sponsorship of EMU, were also done in EMU. The film’s visual effects were done by Fırat Tüzünkan, Vice-Chair at the Department of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design (VACD).
IT HAS REACHED 40 THOUSAND VIEWERS IN 12 COUNTRIES
Kısmet, premiering internationally on October 18th in the USA at the 16th Tallgrass Film Festival, one of the most important film festivals for independent films, has reached 40 thousand viewers in 12 countries and more than 200 cities as per the 16th Shnit International Film Festival held between October 18th and 28th.
