Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) presented awards to the academic staff entitled to receive Publication Achievement and Research Incentive Awards for their research in 2019 and to faculty members who undertook the thesis supervision of students in various doctoral programs in the 2019-2020 Academic Year.
Present at the award ceremony held at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 18 November 2020 were the President of the Board of Trustees Dr. Erdal Özcenk, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, EMU Board of Trustees members Asst. Prof. Dr. Hicran Bayraktaroğlu Fırat and Ersun Kutup, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu and Director of Institute for Graduate Studies and Research Prof. Dr. Ali Hakan Ulusoy, Assistant Directors Prof. Dr. Ahmet Rizaner and Prof. Dr. Kağan Günçe. Faculty deans and research advisory board members also attended the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Hocanın stated that one of the most important elements of the university's goals is to conduct research and contribute to science with international research. He stated that besides education and serving the society, research is extremely important.
Underlining that EMU is ranked amongst the best every year by international ranking organizations as a result of scientific publications and research, Prof. Dr. Hocanın stated that the goal is always to go further. Stating that the rankings usually highlight objective criteria, Prof. Dr. Hocanın emphasized that these include citations, joint publications, studies that may lead to scientific patents and studies that can be offered to industrial services.
Prof. Dr. Hocanın went on to say “Appearing in the rankings is a by-product of our work. R0esearch is conducted to contribute to science. In the future, we will continue to give incentives for scientific publication, and we will benefit from national and international projects by producing various solutions for the implementation of projects. It is possible to apply for two different types of projects in the international protocol with TÜBİTAK. We are taking the relevant steps to increase this".
At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Hocanın thanked all faculty members who received awards in 2019 and the supervisors who guided their students with their accumulation. The ceremony continued with the presentation of Publication Achievement, Research Incentive and the PhD Supervisor Awards by the President of Board of Trustees Dr. Erdal Özcenk, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, Board of Trustees members Asst. Prof. Dr. Hicran Bayraktaroğlu Fırat and Ersun Kutup, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deniz İşçioğlu and Director of Institute for Graduate Studies and Research Prof. Dr. Ali Hakan Ulusoy. The ceremony ended after a cocktail organisation.
