New students continue to be acquainted with the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) within the scope of the EMU 27th Orientation Days organized with the aim of supporting the new students’ adaptation process. In this regard, a group of new students paid a courtesy visit to EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe at his office and received detailed information about EMU.
During the visit, Prof. Dr. Karatepe stressed that EMU is a state university and, pointed out that it is also a world university, having graduated over 76,000 students so far. Prof. Dr. Karatepe also mentioned that EMU’s quality has been continuously recognized by several independent ranking bodies, emphasizing the university’s achievements in renowned international rankings like Times Higher Education (THE), Shanghai Ranking, and QS.
Stating that EMU offers education with its robust academic staff, Prof. Dr. Karatepe noted that many programs of EMU are accredited by international accreditation bodies. Prof. Dr. Karatepe added that, in 2025, Faculty of Pharmacy has been accredited by ACPE and TEPDAD accreditation in the field of Medicine has also been granted to the university.
Multicultural Environment and Rich Social Life
Prof. Dr. Karatepe underlined that one of the greatest features of EMU, which distinguishes it from other institutions, is its multicultural environment and rich social life. Vice Rector reminded that the university is a mosaic of cultures with its students from 110 different countries and academic staff from 35 different countries. Prof. Dr. Karatepe stated that having students from diverse cultures learning together plays a significant role in fostering a global vision and helping them acquire an international outlook.
Touching on the open-door policy of the Rector’s Office to effectively address students’ expectations, Prof. Dr. Karatepe pointed out that a unique platform at EMU has been established, enabling students to share their opinions and suggestions by sending e-mails under the initiative called “Message to the Rector”. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Karatepe emphasized that EMU places great importance on students’ thoughts and perspectives as part of its commitment to a pluralistic, democratic, and transparent governance approach.
Giving advice to the new students, Prof. Dr. Karatepe said; “Get the most out of EMU’s academic and social opportunities. Along with being a higher education institution, EMU is also a meeting point for diverse cultures, academic achievements and social development. Furthermore, EMU supports not only academic achievement but also students’ personal growth. To this end, the university provides a variety of active student clubs where students can explore their interests and talents, along with sports facilities for those who wish to engage in physical activities.
