Being annually organized at the beginning of each academic semester by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Student Development, Activities and Sports Affairs Directorate with the aim of supporting the new EMU students during their adaptation period, the 28th of the Orientation Days continue at full steam.

As part of the EMU 28th Orientation Days program, organized in communication sponsorship of North Cyprus Turkcell (KKTCELL) and in contributions of the Municipality of Famagusta, various events are being carried out, including informative online seminars, fun social events, workshops, as well as city and campus tours.

Various Events Being Organized
During the 28th Orientation Days, a variety of in-person and online seminars and activities are being organized. From 11–17 September 2025, students participated in cinema screenings, karaoke, game nights, and recreation days at EMU-2 Dormitory, fostering new friendships and helping them adjust to university life. Furthermore, on 19 September 2025 at 06:00 p.m., students enjoyed a delightful evening at the EMU Activity Center with the Comedy & Culture Shock performance.

Online seminars are also held within the scope of EMU Orientation Days. Some of these seminars include: “Preparing for Undergraduate Education a EMU”, “Preparing for Postgraduate Education at EMU”, “Health and Psychological Support in North Cyprus”, “Banking and Budgeting in Cyprus”, “Residence Permit & Student Visa Guide”, “Job, Internship and Volunteering Opportunities”, “Safety and Support in Famagusta”, “Welcome to EMU”, “Urban Life” and “Adapting to Cultural Change”.

A Chance to Get to Know the City – Famagusta Tour
The Famagusta Tour, held on 15 and 20 September 2025, helped new students learn more about the city. Departing at 10:00 a.m. from the Student Development, Activities, and Sports Affairs Directorate building, students explored historical sites and key official institutions in Famagusta as part of a rich and informative tour program.

A Close Look into EMU through the Campus Tour
On 18 September 2025 at 10:00 a.m., a campus tour was organized to help students become more familiar with the university. Starting from the Activity Center building, the tour included visits to the Özay Oral Library, Lala Mustafa Paşa Sports Center, Health Center, and various faculties. Students also met with EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Osman M. Karatepe, Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Sonuç Zorlu, and Rectorate Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tolga Çelik, in front of the Rector’s Office Building.

In his address to the students, Prof. Dr. Karatepe said, “Welcome to EMU, the best university on the island. Each of you is a valued member of the EMU family”. He added, “You can always reach out to us if you encounter any problem.”, and wished the students success in their academic journey.
Prof. Dr. Zorlu also welcomed all students and emphasized that the doors are always open for them whenever they face any challenges. Highlighting EMU as the best university on the island, she spoke about the academic and social advantages the university offers. Prof. Dr. Zorlu concluded by saying, “Welcome to the EMU family. I wish you all success in your academic journey”.

Informative Session on Residence Permit Procedures
Students who will complete their studies in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) are legally required to complete residence permit procedures to remain in the country. In this context, the necessary steps for obtaining legal student status were explained to students on 17 September 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at the Activity Center.
Seminar Videos Prepared Regarding Life in North Cyprus and University Life
Within the scope of the 28th Orientation Days, seminar videos; “Life in Northern Cyprus” by the Police Department and “Adaptation to University Life” by EMU Psychological Counselling, Guidance and Research Center (PDRAM) were prepared with the aim of easing the adaptation process of the new coming students. Furthermore, a webinar held by the PDRAM offered more information for the students. On Wednesday, 24 September 2025, at 12:00p.m., EMU PDRAM delivered a seminar, at the Activity Center bulding, titled “Mental Health and Psychological Support Services at EMU”.
Welcoming Night to be held for Students
A ‘Welcoming Night’ event will be organized on Friday, 26 September 2025 at 06:00 p.m. at EMU Beach Club facilities. At the Welcome Night, the Niyal Öztürk Band and DJ Fame will perform, offering an enjoyable evening for attendees. Additionally, the event will feature a band performance and a stilt-walking show. Administrative units, faculties and schools, student clubs and international student societies and student council will set booths, offering information for the new students of the university.
